Each session is 30 minutes in length and will serve an audience of 150 students. Speakers will have 5 minutes each to share their experiences in STEM and give advice to our audience of grade 6 & 7 girls (ages 10-12 years). At past events, speakers have talked about how they got involved in their area of STEM, support from influential female role models/champions, as well as sharing any challenges or advice for pursuing studies and careers in STEM. STEM Talks Speaker
Location: Main Gym
Format: Informal, low tech Details: The afternoon STEM Talks session is a fun STEMcomm opportunity for speakers to present interactive aspects of what they do in STEM to rotations of smaller groups of girls. The presentation format is very informal, low tech and much like a STEM show and tell! Speakers are encouraged to make their STEM Talks as fun, whacky and interactive as possible. The sky is the limit. Each STEM Talk session (A, B, or C; see the conference program) will have 2 group rotations (about 10-15 girls per rotation). Speakers will repeat the same presentation twice within 30 minutes (15 minutes per session). The environment will be loud as there will be 150 students participating in 10 simultaneous mini-presentations. To minimize noise, we will have individual partitions set up and the gym will be sectioned in half with a main divider. The photos here and the floor plan below provide an idea of what the presenter space will be like. The #MORPH2019 STEM Talks Speaker sessions are now full. Thank you for your interest! |
